A dear child has many names. Shall we call it Content Management System, CMS, content management, content management systems, web management systems or web publishing system? WordPress is a popular content management systems, often used on blogs but also on websites. This means that you can easily add text, images, links and other content to their blog or website.
The roots of the blog
WordPress was originally constructed for blogs, but because the system has become so popular it has even begun to be used as fully-fledged content management systems. The difference is really not that great but you would expect features such as role management and workflow in a CMS system. One advantage of WordPress is that there is a very large user base who develop plug-in that takes care of everything. This allows each WordPress solution to be unique and tailored to the needs.
It often takes a consulting effort to adjust and tighten all plug-ins so it works perfectly. But since there are often ready plug-ins to assume you can get far with relatively little effort.
One important thing with WordPress is that it is open source and can be downloaded free of charge. It is distributed under a GNU General Public License which means that you have access to source code and also have the right to modify and improve the code.
WordPress is designed with an open programming language PHP and uses MySQL database for data storage.
WordPress MU, or multi-user (multiple users) is a development of WordPress, which is a scalable system that handles an unlimited number of users.
